Tenuta Matilde Zasso

A company with a three-generation long tradition in the wine sector and the only one in Pozzuoli to produce the Doc wines of the Phlegreand Fields (Campi Flegrei).

We are at the end of the 19th century, when the grandfather, Michele Vicidomini, inspired by love for his land and by the charm of the great wines of the Phlegraean Fields, starts his business at Monte di Procida, where he produces small quantities of wine for the family using traditional processing methods, and he sells the wine in "quartaruli".

1958

But it was in 1958 that his son Salvatore Vicidomini, together with his wife Matilde, willing to continue the family tradition, moved the headquarters to Pozzuoli near the Solfatara volcano. They not only sold the wine, but they also began to bottle it turning a passion into a large company.

The first machinery for bottling were bought, and then the gradually came to the use of new technologies for winemaking.

1994

In 1994, following to the DOC certification recognition (Controlled Denomination of Origin) both for Falanghina and Piedirosso wines, the production of the DOC Campi Flegrei (Phlegrean Fields) wines started and there was a new expansion of the company with tue acquisition of new wineyards.

TODAY

Today the company is directed with professionality and with respect of the tradition by the Vicidomini family, by the 5 sons of Salvatore and Matilde. Everyone of them takes care of a specific area of the company, from wine growing to grapes pressing, from wine aging to wine bottling, from distribution to marketing.

The Sommelier Michelangelo Russo, who is integral part of the Vicidomini family and staff for some years, is in charge for communication and events including trade fairs.

INNOVATION

Although the company is linked to tradition both in terms of cultivation methods and the processing of native vines, its main goals are technological innovation, expansion and quality improvement of the product. And it is precisely from the encounter between tradition and innovation that the "noble" wines of Campi Flegrei are born: Falanghina and Piedirosso, which the ancient Greeks already knew and appreciated.
